The summer-like conditions prevailing have tempted followers of the summer game out earlier than usual this season, and on Saturday both the Weraroa and Y.M.C.A. clubs held their first, practice on the Domain. For this time of the year, the turf is in good order, and with attention during the next month playable pitches should be got on the local ground. Both Levin clubs intend getting down to solid practice, and should be able to give a good account of themselves as the season advances.
Y.M.C.A. lias had the misfortune to lose two or three of its most prominent members, but has had several additions to its ranks, so that it. should be able to put a fairly strong side in the field. Weraroa will have practically the same team as last season.
It is regrettable that the Moutoa team has dropped out this season, as the prospects are that only three teams will be competing in the Shield Competitions. . It. was hoped Shannon would raise another team. If that eventuates, it will save one team having a bye each week, which should be avoided if possible in the intereses of the game.
