A hearty laugh was occasioned at a meeting .of the South Canterbury Farmers’ Union when the question ot membership, was being discussed (relates Ihe Tim aru Herald). Mr J. McCovt said lb at many and varied for not .joining tlie union, and he thought that- one which had been given to him recently “took the biscuit.” He had asked a farmer to join the Union, and the reply he had received was* :“Whait the does the Union do for us farmers, anvwa.vP Look at the turnips which are rotting all over the country this year”
