SHANNON CRICKET CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting of the Shannon Cricket Club was held in tire Parish Hall on Friday evening, when there were fifteen members present, Mr G. Quarrie presiding. t The chairman, in his opening remarks, congratulated the club on winning the Shield last season, and informed the meeting that the club had only to win the trophy once
again for it to remain the club’s own property. The Shannon Club had already won it three times in succession and lour times at intervals, lie wished the club, every success lor the coming season, and vacated the chair.
Nominations were called for chairman lor the ensuing year, and Mr Quarrie was again unanimously reelected. In thanking the members for re-electing him, Mr Quarrie spoke of some of the oid history of the club and mentioned this made his tenth year’ as chairman. The balance-sheet for the previous year was_ presented, and showed a small credit balance for the coming season.
It was decided to enter one team for in: Shield competition. Tbe advisability of entering a B team was discussed, but it was' decided nothing could be done to insufficient information as to the number of players that would be available. The Management Committee were instructed to go into the question of a B team if players were available, and finances could be arranged to form one.
Messrs. Main and Morgan, who were elected to represent .the club on the Association, were instructed by the club to support the question of one-day matches. They were also instructed to support the present method of allotting points, viz., two points for a win, one for a draw’. The question of a sole selector arose, and the delegates were instructed to put before the Association the advisability of having a sole selector lor the Horowhenua rep. team, such gentleman to*bei a non-player if possible. The question of umpires was left in the delegates’ hands, with instructions to press upon the Association the need of an Umpires’ Association in the distinct.
’ The question of the; club’s annual subscription from members then arose, and after a good deal of discussion it was decided to let the subscription remain as previously, viz., 10/ for playing members, 5/ for bon. members, and 5/ for boys under 13 years ol age. Election of .officers took place as follows: Patron, Mr A. Seifert; president, Mr W. Murdoch, and a number of vice-presidents; secretary an ! treasurer, Mr L. Y. Randall (re-elect-ed); management committee, Messr-. Morgan, Mason/Bishop, Harris, Main. C. Hook, Grainger and Murray; delegates to Association, Messug. Main and Morgan; captain, Mr Grainger; vice-captain, Mr Main; selection committee, Messrs. Grainger, Main and Harris.
The chairman, in closing the meeting, drew the: attention of members
to the good services rendered in the past by the secretary, Mr Randall, and stated the club was fortunate, indeed in having such a hard-working and enthusiastic secretary.
