MAORI BALL.
Quit© one of the most enjoyable balls held in Shannon was the Maori Ball which took- place in the Druids’ Hall on Friday evening to raise funds for the erection of the Poutu meeting house. There was a large attendance
and everyone was enthusiastic about
■ the way the committee watched to see that everyone had & good time. The hall Was very artistically decor- | ated, and reflected great credit upon ; those who were responsible. Ferns j festooned the walls of the main hall and supper room, and from the ceilj ing oi both red, white and blue J streamers formed a canopy with ChiI nese lanterns in the centre, the whole forming a very prettj r sight, whilst the stage was decorated with greenery and clematis. Messrs. T. Kohika and P. Heremia were very efficient as
M.G.’s. Several new dances were in-
troduced, among them being the “Excuse Me Waltz,” which was very amusing. Mr Larkins full jazz orchestra supplied the music, and added much to the tnjoyment of the evening. The supper arrangements, which were in the hands of Mesdames Merwood and Terry, assisted by the Maori ladies’ committee, was quite'a feature of the ball, there being a plentiful supply of most delicious dishes. At an interval Mr McDonald, on behalf of the Maoris, thanked all those present who bad made the gathering such a success, and stated it was the intention of the committee to hold a series of dances for the purpose of raising funds for the meeting house. He also thanked the ladies who had made the supper arrangements. During theevening extras were played by Messrs Merwood, J. Olsen and McDonald. Dancing was carried on until the early hours of the morning. The committees are to be congratulated on the excellent arrangements and the manner in which the ball was conducted, and it must be very gratifying to them that it was such a success, as they had worked hard to at-
tain that -end. The committee wish to specially thank Mesdames Merwood, Terry, McDonald and Mr McDonald for their help.
