PROTEST AGAINST! PORIRUA UPHELD.

A meeting of the Horowhenua Rughy Union was lieid on Tuesday evening, Mr W. Thomson presiding over a good attendance ol members. The Otaki Club forwarded a protest against the Porirua Club playing for the Licensed Victuallers’ Cup last Saturday, Otaki before the game started stating that they would play under protest. The protest was upheld on the. motion of the chairman, on the ground that Porirua was not entitled to play for the Cup as such competition was open to junior clubs playing under the jurisdiction of the Horowhenua Rugby Union only.

The Levin Rovers were scheduled to play Otaki for the Licensed Victualler V Cup at Omki oil Saturday next, Mr Burrows to he referee. The final for the third grade championship, Foxton* v. Te Horo, was set down for Levin on Saturday next at 2.30, Mr Sciascia to referee. It was decided that four members of the Union visit Tokomaru on Friday; September 15, to present the championship trophies to the Tokomaru team, winners of the junior

competition. A letter was received from the Manawatu Rugby Union offering to defray the expenses of the Horowhenua rep. team to Palmerston North on September 1G to meet Manawatu, also to pay the cost of the combined team’s visit to Wellington alter that to play the Wellington representatives.

The offer was accepted, Mr Bevau to be manager of the team to Palmerston and also to be the Horowhenua selector for the combined team, Manawatu to. be advised accordingly. Father Vibaud and Messrs. Thomson and Carmichael were appointed a committee, to meet the Manawatu Union at Palmerston North on Friday evening to go into the amalgamation proposal. The Union having written and asked the Referees’ Association for a balance-sheet in regard to a sum of £5 handed to the Association by the Union, and no reply being forthcoming, it was decided to notify the Association that the balance-sheet be produced.
