A CRITIC CRITICISED.
LOCATION OF A CESSPOOL
At Tuesday night’s meeting of the Shannon Borough Council, Cr. Fargiter referred to the letters in the' “News” regarding a cesspool that was said to be a menace to health and safety. He asked if any of the councillors knew, what place it re--1 erred to.
The Mayor said he had seen the teller, and thought it unfair to the Council, as the correspondent sheltered behind a noni-de-plume. He said he was sure that no paper of standing would insert such a letter without first interviewing the Council, and he considered the correspondent should have notified the Council. If the correspondent would first inform the Council where such trouble existed they could investigate ihe matter.
We understand the Mayor has now been advised of the location oi the pool referred to., He evidently forgets that the publicity given to it arose out of certain remarks of his at the meeting of the Palmerston Hospital Board regarding ttie way the backyards of Shannon bad been cleaned up. If there is a nuisance, our correspondent.- was entitled to draw abolition to ft, and our columns were equally open for the Mayor or anyone else to reply- in. In any case the public well-being should be the first consideration, and the easiest way to settle the matter would he to get a report from the Health Officer on the subject. .
