The Roadman reported: I have carted out 126 yards of metal to- the Foxton Road, and repaired road where required out to the boundary line. I have also carted four loads 0: metal to the cottages on the hill on Levin Road, and have put the rubbish tip in order once again. I am now metalling a portion of Vance Street, which inquires a coat right through of metal.

WATERWORKS SCHEMir ADOPTED

The Engineer’s final report on the above scheme, which was presented to the Council at its last meeting, came before the Council when tire Engineer, Mr R. Edwards, outlined the proposal, during which he stated the scheme was the most economical they could get, and pointed out, that the quality of the water would be most satisfactory for two- reasons, that it would be aerated, which was a considerable itjem; secondly, that it would be 'obtainable front the mountain tops, thereby avoiding* decayed vegetation, etc. Cr. Hook wanted to know what the distance from the reservoir tb' the creek would be for pumping. s

The Engineer stated that the scheme was on the gravitation principle. Pumping was the alternative. Cr. Gardner: What is the fall? The Engineer: One hundred and twenty-six feet. Councillors were unanimous that gravitation was the most satisfactory. The Mayor suggested that in the event of the Council going on wi:h the scheme, lie was in favour of letzing the whole contract to one person. They would then know where they stood. He also stated they wantto know some practical way of putting the scheme into working order.

The Council then went into commitlee, and alter discussion, on the motion of Cr. Gardner, seconded by Cr. Fargher, it was decided that ttie scheme he formally adopted, and a committee consisting of the Mayor, Crs. Gardner, Spencer, Fargher and Murray be s§.t up to go into the matter and report to the Council at a future meeting.

It was recommended by Cr. Hyde that the question of selling power should not he overlooked by the committee, as he considered there, would he a big demand for it by industries and others.
