The pumping by electric power of the No. 2 tunnel was commenced on Tuesday; and the large body of water which' inundates the tunnel is being satisfactorily discharged hy this process.

A couple of slips, caused by the continuous wet weather, have occurred in the cut for the Arapeti dam, and the cleaning up of these is are tarding the progress of this section of the work.

The shaft over the intake and of the No. 2 tunnel has been excavated completely, and preparations for con-

creting it (reinforced) in readiness for the lock valves will now be gone on with.
