An evidence of the value of testing and culling is afforded by the experience of Mr R. Gilmour, of Koputaroa, whose herd, of 31 cows averaged 271.21 b of butterfat for the past season, and the record is enhanced by the fact 'that' six of the herd are two-year-old iieifers. Two years ago the herd average was 2201 b fat, after Avhich eight cows were culled and replaced by better animals. The result is apparent this, season. Mr Gilmour intends working up to a 3001 b average, and on the lines he has adopted will achieve that end in due course.
