OVER 1¼ MILLION LBS BUTTERFAT.
LEVIN DAIRY COMPANY’S OUTPUT. 'At the annual meeting of the Levin Dairy , Company on Wednesday, the chairman of directors (Mr S. A. Broadbelt) referred to the operations of the company. During the past year, he said, the company had had an output Of 709 tons Bcwt of butter, as against 525 tons the previous' season, an increase of nearly 200 tons, a very satisfactory result. The milk and cream received at the factory and creameries was as follows:
The total weight of . milk received was 23,770.5071 b, and butterfat handled 1,342,1971 b. Of the output of butter, one-third of the total was from homeseparated cream. The total payments to suppliers during the season was £93,763 15/7. The chairman touched on the industry generally, and showed the wonderful advance it had made since 1900. In that year the Dominion exported 4528 tons of butter, realising 104/ per cwt, or 8d per lb. By 1909 the exports had increased to 13,600 tons at 111/ per cwt; in 1919, 18,179 tons; 1920 a fall to 12,000 tons; 1921, 28,000 tons when the high price of 289/ per cwt was reached; and 1822, 39,899 tons. Cheese had increased similarly, the combined value of butter and dheese during last year benig £16,000,000. .
