SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING.
The regular, monthly meeting of the Shannon School i Committee 1 was held on Tuesday. Present; Messrs.
Murray (chairman), Downes, Watterston, Watkins, Warrington, Anderson, I Quarrie and Carlyle. Mr Voysey (head teacher) was also in attendance, and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE.
From the Manawatu Registrar of Electors asking permission to use the school as a polling booth on the day of the general election.—Granted on condition that all damage will be repaired.
the Education Board re conveyance ol‘ children from Buckley io the school, with advice that the Board’s Inspector had traversed the district concerned for the purpose of ascertaining the fullest information.—Received and decided to leave the matter in pending a further report from the committee appointed to deal with the project. Frojn Mr and Mrs Butler and family returning thanks for letter of sympathy in their recent sad bereavement.—Received.
From the Education Board with information that Miss M. Eason has been selected to All the vacancy at the Shannon School.—Received, and the secretary directed to write the Board asking for a teacher to fill the vacancy caused by the illness of Mrs Barnes, who will not be resuming duty for six months at least.
From Mrs Bovis offering to organise an entertainment on behalf of the annual picnic.—Accepted with, thanks, Mrs Bovis to be informed that the Committee will assist her in e,ve>y way to cariy the entertainmem through. The community singing committee of the Shannon Labour Party offered to hold a sing at the Maoriland Theatre next Tuesday, in aid of the Picnic Fund of the school, and also,an other sing at a later date to he arranged.—Decided to accept the offer, and the Sing Committee to be notified that the School Committee will be glad of the opportunity to assist a! the second sing. A suggestion was received from Mi A. E. Hyde re School Picnic Fund and as the Committee deem it advisable to leave the matter till a later date for consideration, Mr Hyde bo informed accordingly and thanked for (lie suggestion. '
