FOXTON PROTESTS.
PUBLIC MEETING PASSES MOTIONS
(Special to News.) Foxton, Tiiis Day. A public meeting was held in Foxton last night to discuss football matters and the actions of the Management. Committee of the Horowhenua Rugby Union. The Mayor presided, kind 70 persons were present, including five borough councillors, many local'footballers, business men, and the general public. Mr F. D. Whibley addressed the meeting in regard to the treatment Foxton had received last season and this season in the distribution of representative matches and other matters in connection with football management.
' Several speakers strongly supported Mr Whibley’s attitude, and the followng motions were unanimously piassed:—■
“That this public meeting of citizens of Foxton and district enters an emphatic protest at the unfair attitude and methods of 'the Management. Committee of the . Horowhenua Rugby Union in refusing to allow the Wai-rarapa-Horowhenua rep. match to be played at -Foxton, after it had received directions to- play the match at Foxton from a general meeting of delegates' representing the whole of the clubs in the Horowhenua Union’s district. This meeting is of opinion that if the mismanagement of football in this district by the Horowhenua M mtgement Committee this year is fulo-ved to continue, it will have a very detrimental effect. on thei game of Rugby, and urges the clubs concerned to take such steps a.s will tend to put. the management on a lair and proper basis.”
“That this public meeting heartily congratulates Mr Whibley on tne stand be lias taken in connection with the betting charges recently before the Management. Committee.” ; A meeting of the Foxton Football Club was held yesterday afternoon, when motions were passed protesting against, the Management Committee disregarding the instructions of the delegates’ meeting in reference to rep. mlatches, congratulating Mr Whibley on the stand he had taken in reference to alleged cases of betting, and objecting to his suspension by the chairman of the Management Committee.
