MR NEWMAN RETIRES FROM contest. , FOR MANAWATU SEAT. (Special to Shannon News.) Wellington, July 20. It is understood that Mr Edward Newman will pot be a candidate at.the coming general election, he having intimated his intention of retiring from active politics. The selection ol a successor to Mr Newman is now under consideration by the Reform Party, and names of prospective candidates have bpeii submitted to Mr Massey.

' The candidates definitely announced for the Manawatu seat, which includes the Borough of Shannon, are Mr W. Murdoch, Mayor of Shannon, who is 'standing in the Liberal interest, and Mr E. D. Whibley, of Foxton, the Labour nominee. \
