Another lecture of the winter series was given last Monday evening, the subject on this occasion being “The Evolution of Man.” There was a good attendance. , i The lecturer, Mr Ernest Mander, first spoke iof the evolution of the universe, the process of the making of the worlds. He then discussed the meaning of the evolution of living things, and showed the conditions which make for evolution. After explaining the three factors in evolution —the lact that “like produces like" with differences; the struggle tor existence; and)’ giatunal selection—the lecturer went on to give an outline of the story of the making of man. He hefd that man became man when he first discovered the use of fire; and then described the various stages of evolution from that point do>vn to the present time. >
