DAIRY COW PRICES. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report that at Waikanae on Wednesday, 12th inst., we submitted a small yarding of both sheep and cattle to a fair attendance of buyers. Competition, however, was keen, and we effected a total clearance. We quote: Fat sheep 23/, fat ewes 20/1, 3-year -steers (bad colours) £3, dairy cows £4 15/ to £6 10/.

Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report that .they conducted a most successful clearnig sale on account of Mr D. Bradley at Manakau on Thursday, lath inst. The cows come forward in good condition,, and the whole herd of 33 ..cows averaged £lO per head. Prices were as follows: Best cows £l2 5/, £l3 15/, £l4, £ls to £l7 5/. Others £7 5/, £8 to £lO. Backward calvers £5 to £6 10/. Cows in milk £4. Jersey bull £7. Store cows 22/6 to £2 17/6. Breeding sows £2 30/ to £5 10/. Horses, implements and furniture also sold well.

At Gladstone Road, Levin, on Friday, 14th tnst., they conducted the most successful clearing saie held in the district this season. The cmv. came forward in splendid condition and there was a good attendance o buyers. The whole herd aveiaged the good price of £l3 2/6. Prices were afollows: Best cows £ls 5/, £is 10,, to £lB 15/; others £9, £lO, £l2 5/ to £l3 10/; weaner heifers £2 5/ to £3 15/; springing heifers £7, £8 to £9; Jersey bulls £2 2/6 to £5; breeding sows £3 10/, £4 10/ to £5 5/. Horses and sundries also sold at late rates.

A resident of Georgestown got a nasty shock in the early hours of a recent morning (says the Southland News). The gentle opening of his bedroom window awakened him, and while he was awaiting developments an intruder climbed into the room, striking a match to look round. On being spoken to the intruder promptly departed the way ho had entered.

Rabbiting is still on the boom in Otago, although big catches are now harder to get. That the industry is still lucrative (says the Orepuki Advocate) is instanced by the fact that a trapper in this district made a £6O cheque for two weeks’ work. One man is reported to have received a cheque for £66, being for a fortnight’s work dn the Wyndhara district.
