BIG FARMERS’ UNION BRANCH SECEDES.
The organiser of the Dairy Farmers’ Union, Mr A. E. Fear,' reports considerable progress in the organisation of the Manawatu district. Numbers of branches have been formed, the most notable being that at kauwhata, where there has hitherto been a strong branch of the Farmers’ Union. A meeting was held some 'time ago there and adjourned to allow an invitation to be sent to Mr W. J. Poison, President oi
the N.Z. Farmers’ Union, asking him to discuss the position of the new Union. No reply had been received, but extracts from a letter sent to a gentlemah in Palmerston by Mr Poison were received and some suggestions mentioned therein were not regarded as acceptable. Alter a long discussion,
says the Palmerston Times, Mr Fear, organiser lor the D.F.U., was called in and questioned regarding the rules and constitution of his organisation.
On the motion of Mr Bond, it was unanimously 'decided to form a branch of the Mr Bond, speaking to his resolution, stated that the Kauwhata branch had over 70 enthusiastic members and he ventured to state that the
change which was taking place was not out of disrespect to the Farmers’ Union but towards something which
would he more suitable to them as dairy farmers. He looked forward to the time when all kindred organisa-
tions would he linked up into one strong organisation. These sentiments . were supported by Mr Neil Campbell, hitherto president of the Farmers’ Union at Kauwhata. A strong committee was set up to carry on the worlc A branch was formed at Feilding yesterday, the 1 Executive including some well-known men.
Mr Fear states he. has enlisted the active support of various gentlemen, who are well-known as breeders of pedigree stock. The names of Messrs S. R. Lancaster, A. Lancaster, R. Cobbe, Lovelock, A. C. Donald, M. F. Anderson, T. Seccombe, and Jas. Macfarlane are mentioned. Twenty branches have already been formed and a conference will be held in Palmerston shortly to carry, on the movement.
