SHANNON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr Murdoch) and Crs. Hook, Gardner, Spencer and Murray. HOUSING SCHEME. A special meeting of the Council was first held to confirm the resolution passing the Special Order in regard to the housing scheme.

A complaint was received requesting the Council to compel Mrs Barker to remove the fence erected by her in Elizabeth" Street, which was alleged to have been the cause of much annoyance to the neighbourhood.—Decided that Mrs Barker be asked to remove the fence.
From the Minister of Public Works acknowledging receipt of letter confirming representations which were made to him recently regarding the Shannon bridge, and that- he would give the matter early consideration. From Mr R. W. Spiers re account for timber supplied to the Council.— The matter to be left in the hands of the Mayor.
From Hodder and Tolley quoting oats for sale.—Received.
The State Advance Office wrotei re Housing Loan of £4500, stating that the copy of the Special Order submitted would appear to be in order, also stating that when full evidence of the proceedings taken is forwarded it will be submitted to the Crown Law office for examination, and if found to be in order, the application in due course will be submitted to the Board of the office for final approval.
/ The Borough Engineer forwarded copies of the Explosives and Dangerous Goods By-laws, also one copy oi by-laws for temporary license for six months. He stated he would write to applicants and point out what the Act required them to do in order to get a complete retail license. GENERAL.
The Mayor moved that the Engineer be instructed to call tenders for the erection of two cottages.
SOLDIERS’ MEMORIAL,
The question of calling tenders for the Soldiers’ Memorial was discussed and it was decided to let the matter stand over' till next, meeting.
REPORT OF ROAD COMMITTEE."
The Road' Committee reported: Re bridge.over Stansell’s drain. The-Com-mittee viewed the site, and have decided to erect a 9ft span bridge out of heart rimu timber, to be well tarred throughout. Footings to be in*concrete.
Water to sump from McKegg’s overflow.—Decided to carry water under footway to the water channel. ;
Kerbing_and footpath to planted plot: Decided to fix wooden kerbing, tarred channel, and grade and metal and tar the footpath.
Re Memorial Stone: Decided to proceed with work when funds subscribed are available.
Footpaths, retarring: Have, decided to hold off this work in the meantime, owing to the bad state of the weather, as it would be a waste of time and material in tarring.' Accounts totalling £125 19/6 were passed for payment.
