HOROWHENUA COUNTY.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The July meeting of the Council was held on Saturday, and was attended by Crs. G. A. Monk (chairman), J. 11. Why to, F. J. Ryder, H. Barber, J. McLeavey, C. I. Harkness, H. G. Bryant, S. A. Broadbelt, and A. R. Knox. CORRESPONDENCE.

. The General Manager of Railways replied to the Council's suggestion urging an alteration in the train service to suit the convenience of children residing north of Levin wiho desired to attend the high school here. The matter had been fully inquired into, but it was regretted that the departure time from 9.25 a.m.- to 11.25 could not be altered, as this train was the only means by which passengers could reach certain stations in the morning. The delay of the train would also dislocate the through goods traffic.

Mr \V. Laing, Wallace Road, asked that a culvert be supplied for the road opposite his property.—Left in the hands of Or Broadbelt and the Engineer to deal with. Mr Kelly 1 , of Tokomaru, waited on the Council. He said he wanted the Council to define the boundary between himself and a neighbour. The boundary Irad originally been the centre of the Tokomaru stream, but about two years ago a cut had been made through Ids land to divert the stream and save the northern end of the bridge. Sonie of his land had been cut off, and unless the boundary was defined he was in danger of losing that land altogether. The chairman said the Council appreciated Mr Kelly's position, and would see what could be done. He stated, 100, that the Council was appreciative of Mr Kelly's action in allowing the cut to be made through his land to save-the bridge. RESOLUTIONS. The chairman moved, and it was carried, that the special order made at a special meeting- of the Council held on June 10, 1922, authorising the raising of. the antecedent loan liability loan of £9OOO, and striking a special loan of one-fourteenth of a penny in the pound over the whole of the county as security for same be continued.

It was resolved, on Cr. McLeavey's motion, that the seal of the County be attached to ten debentures for £9OO each, issued in respect to the antecedent liability loan of £1)000 raised ny the. said Council. Tokomaru Uiding.—ln the northern part ,'ot' this riding e-evrything is in iairly good order, but in the southern end some of the roads are in great need of repair, and during the period a quantity of gravel was put out to patch the worst parts of these roads until 1 am able to send the plant into this riding. . • Wirokino Riding.—Approximately 1100 cubic yards i. of gravel have been distributed on the various roads during the period, and the plant is at present working on the main road, Weraroa Settlement. A great -deal of inconvenience has been caused while re-forming .'.this road owing to The
