SCENE OF THE OCCURRENCE.
This sketch plan, while not drawn to scale, shows the scene of the tra« - gedy in its relation to the rest of the works. The small dam between the high ranges is in Arapeti Valley, and the No. 2 tunnel (marked 127 chains on the plan) runs through towards the Shannon side of tne ranges It was from 17 to 20 chains in from the Arapeti and where the id-fated men lost their lives. The/ cross marks the approximate spot where the trageoy occurred.
