RECENT FATAL COLLISION.
' CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER. Palmerston North, June 27. The Coroner, Mr, A. J. Graham, gave nis finding this morning. He 1 reviewed the tacts revealed by the evidence, from which it appeared that Mcintosh was driving on -the wrong side of the ro'ad when* the collision occurred. The evidence .also established that at the time of the accident the gig lamps were not alight. It was bright moonlight, and the car was so well-lighted as to show up on the road some distance ahead. Despite the fact that the gig had no light, no reasonable explanation had been offered as to why the gig was not observed. The Coroner said he would be neglecting his duty if he did not state that, in his opinion, the driver of the car did not exercise that degree of caution that was essentially necessary not only in his own interests, but for the safety of others, more especially in view of the fact that he was travelling at a speed of from 10 to 15 miles per hour on the wrong side of the road The verdict would be that deceased Davidson died as the result of injuries sustained in a collision on the Shannon-Makerua Road, witti a horse and trap, while in a car that was being driven contrary to the rule of the road.
Subsequently Hugh Wilson Mcintosh was arrested and charged with manslaughter. A remand was granted on the application of the police.
