Mr Symes, jun., is having a concrete residence erected on his small farm on the borough boundary. The party which visited Arapeti Camp on Wednesday evening both made enjoyment tor themselves and also gave others a good entertainment. The music for the dancing was one of the features of the evening. The little daughter of Mrs Exton had the misfortune to fall from a round-about in the school grounds last week, and break her leg. The little sufferer was attended by Dr. Evans and removed .to her home, where she is making a good recovery.

Golfers are reminded that to-mor-row the first bogey match of the season will be played on the local finks. All players are'requested to make an effort to compete. Play may commence any time after 1 p.m. Twelve holes.

A single man was the judgment debtor in a case at the Levin S.IVI. Court yesterday. Debtor stated he had been unable to pay because he was only vtorking about two day a week. His Worship: “Well, the sooner you get more than two days a week the better ft will be for you. There is no reason why a single man should not be able to pay his debts.” An order was made for tihe payment, of the amount due, with the usual default.

Arrangements have already begun for the Venerable Bede’s childrens’ annual fancy dress ball, which will be held on some date in the.near future. Dancing classes will again be held, in preparation for the ball, and should the same fortune attend the function this year as last, a. very enjoyable and delightful evening :hould be spent, by both old and young. Advertisements will appear in this paper when the date is announced. Another very pleasant evening was spent at the Parish Hall on Tuesday iast, when the Venerable Bede’s fortnightly euchre party and dance was held. These happy social gatherings are now firmly established, and as each one comes round the . interest grows keener. Besides the prizes offered each evening for euchre, a record of all players is kept, and spe--cial prizes will be awarded at the end of the session lor highest total scores. Euchre starts at 7.30 p.m., and dancing at 10 p.m. Mrs Butler supplies excellent music, and a strong committee of ladies attends to the supper arrangements. The floor is always in splendid order, while the hall is made cosy with the use of heaters. Last Tuesday’s winners were Mrs Roach of Ihe ladies and Mr Hennessv of the gentlemen.
