While motoring from Palmerston on Friday last, Mr Fargher’s car was struck on the hub of the wheel by another car that attempted to pass from behind. The result was that Mr Fargher’s car swerved and was only kept from overturning by the driver’s presence of mind. As it was, the car went into a drain by the roadside, but fortunately no one was hurt. Considerable damage was done Mr Fargher’s car, but this is being made good by the other car-owner.
“Yes, I’m standing definitely as a candidate for Manawatu in the Liberal Labour interest,” said Mr W. 1 Murdoch, Mayor of Shannon, to a Foxton Herald representative, “And what is more,” he added, “I will not hit the Massey Government below the belt, but will indulge in fair criticism and give credit where it is due.” The Herald adds: “Mr Murdoch has been a keen supporter of the Liberal Parly for more years than we should like to tell. He has likewise been a champion of sane labour as distinguished from the extreme type. He is loyal to the finger-tips, and has taken a keen interest in all patriotic efforts for the welfare of returned soldiers. His practical work on behalf of the men on the Mangahao hydro-electric scheme has won for him high encomiums from the men. As a platform speaker he does not mince matters, and can take and give hard knocks on occasion. His views on the political outlook should be interesting anil instructive.”
