RUGBY UNION TO MEET .HIS ’ EVENING. The position created by the refusal of the Referees’ Association to appoint a referee for the Old Boys-Shaunon match at Shannon on Saturday has created an unexpected situation that was not anticipated by the Union and a special meeting 'of the latter body will be held this evening to deal with the matter.

Foxton, on the Domain). —Palmer, Buxton, Ly risky, Brown, Bead, (Cole, Broughton, Collier, Heta, Jackson, Hunter, Wakelield, Burns, Malone, Paki. .Weraroa Thirds (v. MEETING OF RUGBY UNION

The weekly meeting was attended by Messrs. E. J._ Nash (chairman), F. Whibley, *M. Win iat a/ L. Dixun and L. S. Carmichael (secretary). Mr A. J. R.-Isherwod attended the meeting for the purpose .of handing over his presentation shield for the Horowhenua senior competition. He -expressed the hope that the shield would be the means of stimulmiug interest i nthe’game, and said lie wouul like the shield placed on view :u some business place at the commencement of each season. . -

The chairman thanked Mr Isberwood for his splendid gift, and referred to the donor’s sporting qualities and those of his family. The gitt ol the shield was greatly appieeiaied, and would lo much to assist the game in this district. A round of applause followed the chairman’s remarks.

It was decided that thei Isherwood Shield be insured for £3O.

The request of the Hui Mai Club that. B. Graham and W. McPherson be transferred from junior to third grade was agreed to.

The question of a referee’s complaint against W. Marino in ‘the Te HoroHui Mat match was again brought up, and it was decided that the rlayer be warned against similar conduct s future.

It was decided to dispose of the black jerseys of the Union lo the best advantage, and, the secretary was authorised to have goalposts erected. NOTES ON THE, GAME. It is reported that the Horowhenua rep. and All Black forward, 11. Jacob, will not make the trip to Australia as a member of .the, Maori Rugby team: The Horowhenua championships in all grades will be resumed on Saturday.

The Levin football public will have a big attractoin on the local Domain on Saturday, when two senior matches will be! contested. These will be the

Hui Mai-Wanderers game, and the fixture between Foxton and Weraroa. In the first round on the Monakau ground, Hui Mai narrowly defeated

the Wanderers. Since then tne latter team has not lost a g&me, whilst. Hui Mai was beaten by Foxton,*so that honours are even. Saturday’s fixture should be a great go, which has so often proved the case between these clubs in past years. The Foxton-Weraroa fixture promises to te a bitone-sided, the seaside team is playing very well, as was only 1o be expected after having given such liigb-class exhibitions as juniors, .'-.'though the result looks a foregone conclusion, Weraroa is at least proving game, and does' its best whatever the opposition. Old Bovs, of Otaki, have not kept up their winning form, ahhough a change in the team no doubt Goad some effect in losing their last match with Foxton. On Saturday tne Old Boys will meet Shannon on Ihe Shannon ground. A good match is promised on the Weraroa ground on Saturday, when the Wanderers, who are playing veil lliis season, will meet Tokomaru, another solid lot of juniors. The game should he well worth watching. Beg. Ford, who was playing hi the Wanderers’ senior team last season, an drepresented Horowhenua in several matches, is playing in Christchurch this year tor Merivale. I-ord is evidently playing dashing P-c-ibalJ, and was instrumental in lowering Marists’ colours for the first time in three seasons by scoring three tries against, them—the only scores of the day. He was “chaired” off the ground at the conclusion of the game.
