TELEPHONE TO WELLINGTON.
FOXTON’S COMPLAINT, (From the Levin Chronicle) Levin seems to have a great deal ol telephonic business with Wellington, judging by the complaints of cur neighbours. Yesterday it was Shannon that objected to having to come after Levin. The Foxton Herald voices a similar grievance. Thursday’s issue says: “After waiting for nearly three-quarters of an hour night to get telephone communication with Palmerston North, a local subscriber gave it up as hopeless. After 7 p.m. Palmerston connections are made via Levin. There is no complaint against the local telephone bureau for laxity. On the contrary, the local staff is most obliging, but they are subject to Levin’s convenience or demands. The present state of things is most unsatisfactory and requires attention. The local Chamber of Commerce has called attention to the inconvenience caused to local subscribers by the present arrangements, and has suggested a separate wire with Palmerston. We believe the local postmaster has endorsed and recommended this suggestion to headquarters. The loss of revenue to the Department from cancellation of calls would more than justify a separate wire.”
