LEVIN STOCK SALE.
BRIGHTENING PRICES FOR FAT SHEEP. A big yarding in all sections marked the stock sale in Levin on Monday, and a distinct brightening in the prices for fat sheep was noticeable. This was the first sale for a fortnight, as none was held during Easter, and this doubtless was accountable for the big yardings. Fats were in great demand, and one pen of 30 prime wethers changed hands at 25/, the best price obtained in the yards for over, a year. Fat lambs brought 22/3 to 23/3, with a good demand. Stores were however, much as usual, small 2-tooth ewes bringing 10/, and lambs 9/ to 11/2. A few lines were passed tin. There was a big yarding of cattle and most of the offerings changed hands at prices, perhaps slightly in advance of late rates. The dairy cattle, especially some good Jersey stock, sold well, jersey heifers in calf reached £lO 10/ and spring calvers to £l3, while springing cows realised up to £lO- - were offered in plenty, and there was a total clearance. Details of prices are as under:— Pigs—Weaners 5/6 to 8/6, stores 10/6 to 17/, porkers £2 2/ to £2 10/, baconers £3 8/ to £3 16/. Sheep—Prime fat. wethers 25/, lat wethers 22/6, fat lambs 22/3 to 23/3, fat ewes 18/4 to 18/7, medium fat ewes 16/1 to 16/7, failing-mouth ewes 11/4, store ewes 10/7, 2-tooth ewes (small) 10/, lambs 9/ to 11/2, store wethers 14/. Cattle.—Fat cows £3 5/ to £4 5/, fat heifers £3 7/, good condition steers £3 3/ to £3 6/, fat steers to £4, steers £2 12/6.
