FIRE AT SHANNON.
-—' COTTAGE BURNT DOWN. On Saturday night last a two-roomed cottage owned by lippier, a farmer, near Shannon, was to tally destroyed by fire. The cottage was on Mr Tippler’s farm, about tlir x ee miles from Shannon. It was occupied by Mr J. T. Wells, a contractor, T who is working ,on a drainage contract near by, and bne of his employees, Mr Oswald Coley. Both occupants were at Shannon from 4 p.m. When they returned at II p.m. the cottage was burnt to the ground. Mr Wells had a set of carpenter’s tools, clothing, etc., which he values at £BO, all hf which were destroyed. Mr Colev also is a heavy loser. All his clothing and effects were lost. Neitnar had any insurance on his effects. Mr Tippler values the cottage at over £IOO.- It was insured in the Standard office for £75. There was no insurance on the furniture. There is no clue as to how the Are started. When Mr Wells' left at 4 p.m. to go into Shannon he locked the door and everything seemed to be in order, but at 10.30 p.m., when a neighbouring farmer, Mr Frank Jamieson, was going home from Shannon’, he saw the cottage blazing. Unfortunately the fire had thelr<such a strong; hold that Mr Jamieson could do nediting to save it.
