FLANDERS POPPIES.

.TO BE SOLD IN SHANNON

“In Flanders’ fields the poppies grow, Between the crosses, row on row-’’

Arrangements are being made by the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association to-sell poppies “for remembrance’’ throughout the Dominion during the coming week-end in aid of unemployed soldiers. The poppies are made in France by the widows and dependents of fallen soldiers, and if all the towns in New (Zealand that have been approached rise to the occasion, a sum of something like £IO,OOO will be available for the relief of soldier unemployment throughout the country. The balance of the proceeds, twenty-five per cent, will be forwarded to the makers of the emblems in France. Tl\e Returned Soldiers’ Association hopes •by this means to be able to absorb the idle ex-service men in the Dominion, or, at any rate, will strive to alleviate the unemployment problem among them by finding suitable situations. Attention'will be given primarily to married. men, and the money raised by each committee will be used in the district where it is given.

The appeal is one that will not be made in vain, and we feel sure Shannon will do its part and raise its share of the sum desired.
