Mr Massey informed the deputation that as lar as finance was concerned it was impossible owing to the arrangement made between the financial authorities In London and himself tO' give guarantees to any local body without very seriously affecting the credit of the country. Apart from that, he would do all that was possible to assist them to- raise tne amount they required either in London or elsewhere.
MR COATES GIVES RATES OF CHARGE.
In the course of his reply, Mr Coates said the price of current to the boards would not be less than standard rates, which were approximately £lO-for the first 200 k.w., £8 for 4800, and £7 for 15,000 and over. Mr Coates said the Lake Coleridge contract expired in 1925, and they would then pay the . same rate as Mangahao. Canterbury pays at present £8 13/4 per k.w. for the first 300 k.W (400h.p.), equal to £6 10/ per h.p. All power in excess of 400 k.w. is charged at £5 per annum per k.w.
