LEVIN STOCK MARKET.

NO IMPROVEMENT IN PRICES

Farmers brought their stock forth in goodly number to Tuesday’s stock sale in Levin, and the result was good yardings in all sections. Pigs sold well, and some well-conditioned baconers made comparatively high prices. Sheep prices showed no improvement, though it cannot be said that there was any reduction taken over the whole on places ruling generally. Prices were low, but many of the offerings were not of the best, -the season latterly having been too wet lor the successful topping off of fats. There was one outstandingly good line, however. This was a couple of pens of heavy, big-framed Wethers in good condition, the best line of its kind that has been yarded locally for a long time. The price as an Indication of the market for fats speaks for itself. The price reached was £1 1/4. Fat cattle brought the usual listless bidding, a splendid line of bullocks being passed in for under £7. For young heifers there was some demand, and a good pen of yearlings brought £4. Details of prices are as under:—

Pigs:—Weaners 5/6 to 10/, stores 12/ to 19/, porkers 28/ to £2 12/, baconers £3 4/ to £3 18/. Sheep.—Two-tooth ewes 14/, fat ewes 13/4 to 15/, fat wethers 16/6 to 21/4, store lambs 8/3( cull ewes 5/ to 6/3, forward lambs 15/. Cattle—Fat ewes £3 5/ to £4 8/, store cows £l, vealers £l, dairy heifers £2 6/ to £2 13/, yearling steers 27/ to 35/, dairy cows (winter calvers) £B, yearling heifers £4 to £4 8/.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report at Levin sale on Tuesday, 4th inst., they offered a good yarding of both sheep
