NECESSITY FOR ADVERTISING.

BLENHEIM RESIDENT’S

EXPERIENCES. “I think New Zealand needs as much advertising as the Government can afford to spend, as it’s the furthest away of the colonics and would-be settlers are scared of going, for if they don’t succeed they can’t return easily, as they can from Canada,” writes a lady, formerly af resident of Blenheim, but now residing in London, to Dr. R. NobloAdamse “Let me say,” she {proceeds, “that when I was. in America I was asked whether New Zealand had a flag, and what it was like, and other things about the country—this from educated people. I said I would send them some tourist folders from Cook’s when I got to Philadelphia, but do you think I could find any? Ne’er a one! There, was a casual mention of the Vancouver trip, and seeing Honolulu (capital letters, and Fiji (capital letters) and Auckland (small type). I also read a child’s geography book which gave Australia a short paragraph, and then said: ‘To the south-east of Australia are the islands of Tasmania and New Zealand. Hobart is the capital of the flrst and it is noted for its apples, and the capital of New Zealand is Auckland, from which most of the frozen meat is exported!’”
