PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.

APPLICATIONS FOR ASSISTANCE

A meeting of the Horowhenua County Patriotic Society was held last night, and was attended by Mr P. W. Goldsmith (in the chair), Mrs T. F. Gibson, and Messrs. Plaster and Keedwell.

A local returned soldier w r as granted a loan of £25 for the purpose of purchasing a horse and dray.

A number of other applications were investigated, and in cases where it was considered the applicants deserved assistance or grants the Society decided to give aid. In one case a settler was granted £SO as a loan for the purchase of stock. The financial statement showed that the Society had £159 0/7 to Its credit in the Bank of New Zealand, and £313 6/8 in the Post Office Savings Bank, £l4l 9/2 of which was trust money. The investments were £2550 18/6 in soldiers’ loans, and £3452 in other funds. The total assets of Ihe Society were £6003 5/9.
