SHANNON AFFAIRS.
MEETING OF BOROUGH COUNCIL
A meeting of the Shannon Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening. The Mayor (Mr \V. Murdoch) presided, and others present were Crs. Hook, Spencer, Gardner, Hyde, Furgner and Murray. 0 W. A. Lankshear, previously of Palmerston North, was granted a taxidriver’s license.
The Defence Department notified that two machine-guns, relics of the Great. War, had been dispatched to Shannon. —It was decided to acknowledge tire gift with thanks. The executive of the Druids’ Lodge wrote stating that as the hall was used only for meetings and dances and an occasional entertainment, and not as a theatre, the license lee . iould he £1 1/ and not £5 5/, as charged.—After looking into the matter the Council decided to make the reduction.
Mr McConnell was appointed ranger as from 22nd inst.
The Mayor reported that the financial position as disclosed in the yearly statement, to be presented alter the end of the month woui(l show* that the assets and rates owing would balance the liabilities and overdraft. Last year the Council had commenced operations with a debit balance of £3OO, but this year would he entered into on a much better footing.
