MIXED MARRIAGES.
DOING THE DEVIL’S WORK
In the course of his. Lenten pastoral letter, which was read in the Roman Catholic Churches of Sydney on Lehruary 2G, Archbishop Kelly says:
“Mixed marriages, which affect religion in a manner \yhich is pernicious lo the spirit of the laith in the Catholic wife or husband and in their children, may do the devil’s work effectively. No district in town or .country has a clean record in these .sons of different creeds. The archbishop also referred to the
“disloyalty on , the part of Roman Catholic men, who, disregarding approved associations, Inscribe their names on the ..rolls of merely secular
and even of secret societies. Canon No. 684 of the revised code sets forth: “The faithful, are to be commended
who give their names to associations approved, if not erected, by tlm Church; but let them beware not to he drawn into those associations which are condemned, secret, seditious, suspected, or which take pains to withdraw their transactions from the legitimate watchfulness of the Church.’ Therefore, our Roihan Catholic men will regard it us a duty to themselves as Catholics to keep within the fold of those organisations
which are truly Catholic in character, and all others they will distrust however 'apparently beneficial.”
The pastoral also contains an appeal for State aid for Roman Catholic charitable institutions.
