MEETS NEXT WEEK

The ■ intersessional committee— Messrs. Hockly (chairman), Harris, Isitt, Lee, Luke, Lysnar, McCalium, Savage, Statham, Witty, Wright, and the' Prime Minister—set up by the House of Representatives last session "to consider, in the interests of the publit and generally for its more satisfactory working, what amendments, are required ** in the present Licensing Act,” is to meet at Parliament Buildings on Thursday, March 16.

The committee \vas established, largely at the instance of Mr R. Mc•Callum, M.P. for Wairau, who has introduced Licensing Act Amendment. 'Bills session alter session, with a View ;to improving the conditions under • which the trade is carried on. Mr McCailum repeatedly urged last session the need for amending the Act, in view of the possibility—if not the probability—of national no-license not being carried at the poll in connection with the general elections m December next.
