A large and representative collection of paintings and drawings, the work of the well known artist. P. Van der Veiden (deceased), has been presented to the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts by an anonymous donor. A condition attaching to the gift is that the pictures shall be hung together in one room and shall be named “The Van der Veiden Collection.” An unusual incident occurred at Pukeroa. near Hunterville, recently. A hen with a brood of chicks belonging to Mrs Campbell, was attacked by a stoat. The lien defended her young so well that she killed the stoat, the battle being witnessed by Mrs Campbell.
