NOTES ON SATURDAY COMPE*
TITION.
By their decisive win on Saturday Shannon has settled Y.M.C;A.’s hopes of being in the final bout for the championship and the issue now lies he tween Weraroa and Shannon. Y.M.C.A. was unfortunate in being without the services of Auckram, who, whilst he may not have helped much with the bat, would have strengthened the bowling considerably. Missed chances gave the Shannon batsmen opportunities, and they made the most of them by hitting the bowling all round, the field.
A veteran like the Rev. Harris is not usually caught napping, but, lie was standing on the wrong side of the crease when the Shannon wicketkeeper put liis wicket down. Grainger and Merwood did some fast scoring once they got going. They gave one pf the best exhibitions of the season, and, were unbeaten when the innings was declared with 59 and 67 respectively to their credit. Stewart (40) also played soundly tor his' runs.
F. Fletcher (30 not out) was tire only Y.M.C.A. batsman to make any shape against the Shannon bowling.
The Shannon-Weraroa fixture on Saturday looks a very even go. The records of the clubs are identical. They liave met three times, and thenrecords are a win each and a diaw. The teams are well matched Irom n batting point of view. In bowling Weraroa may have a slight pull over their opponents, hut nothing to speak of, but in the field the honours up with Shannon, and they gave a good exhibition in this department on*Sai-
urday. ' Whichever team wins there wni hot he a runaway victory, and from all points of view the contest should he. well worthy of deciding such an issue as the premiership of the district.
The following team will represent Weraroa against Shannon on Saturday at the Levin Domain, play to commence at 2 p.m. sharp: O Connoi, Pringle, Claridge, Sloan, Thomas, *v. Bevan, R.
