The Horowhenua competition is getting very keen, -Y.M.C.A. being only a point ahead of Shannon and Weraroa, the two latter being level. Moutoa was unable to keep its fixture with Y.M.C.A. at Levin on Saturday, and Y.M.C.A. gels the match by default.
Although not rewarded with a win, Moutoa have stuck to their task well, and players throughout the Association hope for a continuance of their sportsmanship by playing out. the remaining rounds.
The postponement of the matches on January 28 was not quite satisfactory, and if it is found necessary to defer fixtures in future, the Association should meet and notify clubs officially in the proper way. Shannon dill well to compile 1-10 against Weraroa a tier losing six wickets for 30 runs. It. is only another instance of the glorious uncertainly of the game.
Prain was the Shannon sheet-an-chor, and his solid play, well backed by Randall, changed the whole complexion of the game. Two youths in Aim and Hunt played very' confidently for Shannon, and should be heard of again in future matches.
Grainger did not get going against the Weraroa bowling, a hall off his pads removing his leg bail before he notched a run. Prain was lucky to survive an appeal for obstruction. He was out of bis crease when the ball was returned towards the wicketkeeper. Raising Ills hat, apparently to prelect bis bead, the blade deflected '(lie ball and be regained the crease. The action, however, probably saved, him being run out.
Harris was w'ell on' the spot with the ball on Saturday, taking eight wickets for 33—a good performance. For once Randall failed! to get a wicket.
The opening partnership of 63 by Claridge and Pringle, of Weraroa, was the same as the.first-wicket score they registered against Moutoa. These batsmen have given Weraroa a good sendoff in several games this season. 'The Weraroa bailing on the whole was fairly sound, and the bowling good. Sloan and Pringle, O’Connor and Young all being in form. Weraroa was weak in the field on Saturday, for which there is little excuse, and was in contrast to the work done'by Shannon in this department.
On Saturday Y.M.C.A. and Weraroa meet on the Levin Domain. Two games h'ave been played with .a. win each, and Saturday’s match promises to he a keenly-fought contest, in which a good deal of interest is being taken. The Weraroa team against Y.M.C.A. on Saturday will be: O’Connor. Claridge. Sloan. Pringle. Thomas, T-Tall, Harding. Reran. Hughes. Young and Sullivan. CHAMPIONS!! f P POINTS.
