LEVIN MARKET IMPROVES.

„ SHEEP UP 3/ TO 4/; PIGS 5/ PER HEAD. There was a much healthier tone prevailing at the Levin sale on Tuesday, especially fur sheep and pigs. There was a good attendance of buyers,. and competition was better than if has been for months past, every entry in the sheep section being quitted under the hammer at a sharp advance in prices. Rape lambs were in good demand, late Southdowns bringing up to 15/2 - and 15/9, whilst fat ewes made 16/1 and wethers 14/1 to 14/3. Stores, especially breeding ewes, also sold well. The average rise all round was from 3/ to 4/ per head, and the sale closed firm. The

pig section had a fair yarding, and •an upward tendency was noticeable for all classes, there being an average rise of about 5/ per head. The best weaner price was 16/, the highest for many weeks, and porkers went, to £2 8/ and £2 10/, and baconers to £3 3/. Cattle, however, are still slow of sale, with little if any improve ment in price, and what business was done was at the prevailing rates. Pigs.—Weaners 5/7 to 8/ for small,

to 14/ and 16/ for good sorts; light ' porkers 34/, 36/, and 39/; heavier £2 1/, £2 5/, £2 8/ and £2 10/; baconers £3 3/; sow and litter £4 5/. Sheep.—Good rape lambs 12/4, 13/4, 13/6. 15/2. and 15/9; Southdown late lambs 12/7 to 15/2; medium Romney lambs 8/4; others 7/10 to 8/6; fat ewes 15/7 to 16/1> fat wethers 14/1 to 14/3, mixed-aged ewes 11/1 to 12/1, cull lambs 6/ to 7/6, cull ewes 3/9. Cattle.—Fat heifers and cows £4 8/, ,heifer just calved £5 10// cows and calves £2 8/ to £3, well-bred Jersey heifers in calf £lO 5/.
