The Mayor remarked that the report. was satisfactory and it was adopted. WATER SUPPLY FOR SHANNON. Mr R. Edwards, borough engineer, reported: I am in receipt of yours of January 11, and in reply beg to state that I have had a. consultation with Mr Kissel, the Government engineer in charge of the Mangahao lighting scheme, stationed at Wellington, who assures me that there will he nothing objectionable in the water for household purposes after it has pass-, ed through the turbines. I questioned him very closely about any oil j that may drip from the hearings of j the impulse wheels, but he assured i ine that, there was no differnce at the \ Lake Coleridge scheme. If this proves j to be so, then the fact that the water is forced through the machines at i a great pressure will really do the wa/er good—complete aeration of ’ the water is absolutely necessary. I intend to submit a scheme to supply Shannon, having its source close up to the power-house. I will be in Shannon on the 17th for the purpose of completing the levels in order to

ascertain the available bead, which will, of course, determine the size of the pipes. I see ho reason why the report should not be ready for the next meeting of the Council. Tc report was received.
