Mr J. liod-es, of Rapanui, who iudsed die Registered Milking Shorthorns at the Horowhenua Show last week, iniormed a “News” reporter that the show was one oi the most enjovuhie he had attended. He liked the idea of a generous list of competitions, which kept the people highly interested alter their inspection of the stock exinmis, and must make for the popularity of the show. He was much impressed by the close settlement of the district, winch had done much to loster the dairy industry. In his own district there was a larger extent ol land of better quality than that about I evin. hut hemg held in large holdings, was of hale benefit to the district. One could travel miles without seeing a house, and close settlement would he tf boon. What they really wanted was a well-balanced, animal between the two extremes. He then proceeded o point out in a lucid and informative .manner the ideal at which the Jersey should aim, emphasising the relation of the chief characteristics to (lie producing powers. Mr Watson was listened to with close attention > a large number of interested farmers and at the conclusion of his lecture was given three cheers at the calf o Mr H. J. Lancaster, of Glen Oroua.
