The Horowhenua county Council passed for payment the sum of £3 W lid for birds’ eggs at Saturday's meetmeeting. A Levin visitor to the West Coast of the 'South Island during Christmas and New Year states that the tourist traffic on the Coast is very brisk this summer. The principal objective is the glacier district in South Westland. The accommodation there has lately been increased, but even that is altogether inadequate to meet the rush and the principal hotels in Hokitika and Greymouth have large bookings of visitors, who have to wait their turn in making the glacier trip. Others again secure private accommodation within motoring distance of the glaciers and motor to the sights in, the mornings, returning to their lodgings in the evenings. The tourist traffic promises to be a big thing to the Coast in the future, our informant stated.
