MEAT POOL APPROVED.

BY ENTHUSIASTIC CONFERENCE. What was described, by one well able to judge, as the largest, the most representative, and the most important conference of sheep-fariners and meat producers generally ever"held in New Zealand, mot at the Dominion Farmers’ Institute yesterday for the purpose of considering the meat pool proposals put forward by the Government, as the result of the . report of the Parliamentary Advisory Committee in connection with the marketing of New Zealand meat at Home. Upwards of 150 delegates were present, representing some 70 districts throughout the Dominion, also the Board of Agriculture, the New. Zealand Farmers’ Union Executive, the Council of Agriculture, the Sheep Owners’ Federation, and the Producers’ Committee. The conference, which' was presided over hy the Prime Minister, discussed at length the Government’s proposal, and endorsed it by an overwhelming majority. To act in conjunction with the Parliamentary Committee, a committee of fourteen—seven from the North Island and seven from the South Island—was appointed by the conference, the duties of the two committees being to -appoint a New Zealand board and a board at the other end to control the scheme, and to carry on till the New Zealand board was set up. The names of the Conference Committee are as under: North Island—Messrs. W. J. Poison, J. S. Jessop, Wm. Perry, T. A. Duncan, H. B. Williams, George Pearce and A. E. Harding. South Island— Messrs. J. Begg, A. J. Murray, J. C. N. Grigg, E. Bowman, J. 0. Coop, D. C. Wright and E. P. Burberry. At the close of the afternoon conference, an enthusiastic vote of thanks was accorded the Prime Minister and the Government. At the evening meeting the question of financing the pool was considered; but finally, th„e meeting was left in the hands of the joint committees. On the motion of Mr D. Jones, M.P., a resolution was carried recommending the delegates to urge the farmers and the freezing companies in their respective districts to join the pool at once without waiting for the necessary compulsory legislation, which could not be passed for two or three weeks yet.
