HOLIDAY FATALITIES.

J Hawera, January 3. A man named Joseph Thomson died on Opunalte beach yesterday while balhing: The body was brought ashore by two ladies, who found it in about three feet of water. .■-■Efforts at respiration were unsuccessful. It is considered death was due to shoot. Deceased was about 60, and was employed as a porter at the Opunake Hotel. Auckland, January 3. Peter Smith, 32, committed suicide at Ellerslie by shooting himself through the mouth with a gun. The Coroner found a verdict to this effect. Auckland, January 3. Alex. W. Thornley, 51, a resident of Avondale, was drowned while sunbathing at Karakare. His son, Rodger, saw his father in difficulties from the beach, and succeeded in bringing him ashore. Artificial respiration for two hours, was unsuccessful in reviving him.
