FORTNIGHTLY MEETING
The usual meeting oji Tuesday evening was .attended by the Mayor (Mr W. Murdoch) and Crs. Hook, Richardson, Murray, Gardner, Spencer and Butts. CEMETERY GRANT. The Horowhenua County Council wrote in reply to the Borough Coun* cil’s application for a grant lor cemetery work, and stated that the Council had already received a grant oi £2s during the year, and consideration oi the request was therelore held otei until alter March 31, 1922. It was decided that the mattet be held over as suggested. WEEKLY HAbl*-HOLIDAY. The Department of Labour advised that the Council was called upon to hold a special meeting m January for the purpose oi (t e( duing what \N orbing day in the week shall be the s a tutorv -half-holiday. In event oi no such Meeting being held, the Munster would fix the half holiday.. It was decided that a meeting be held ifi January, notification of uhith will be given later. . THE RAI MENACE. Spencer moved, and Cr. Richardson seconded, that 10/ be paid to have the Bowling Club’s convenience attended to, me amount to lie deducted from the contractor’s wages. COWBAILS AND RUAD-UNEb. Cr. Richardson asked it the - specified the distance a bail was to be erected from a public road. The Mayor said he though ‘ two chains, but would n a - ter up if Cr. Richardson allowed R to stand over in the meantime. Cr. Spencer said he noticed h point had been mentioned m ceritai cases beiore the County Council at the last meeting m Levin. . It. was decided that the matter stand over till next meeting. VALUATION CHAKuE., The valuation Department wrote m replv to- the Council’s protest re charge of £34 15/ for the revision o the valuation roll ot the borough. • was pointed out that consider a b work was entailed, and the charge 'was fair and reasonable.^Received. THE TAXI Si AND. Cr. Spencer stated that there had been trouble than day over the ffnestion of the taxi stand in Plimmer t er-race,-and the Council should erect a notice and place it on the stand on the north-west side of the Terrace near the station, to obviate any trouble rn the future. He moved accordingly and the motion was carried.
ACCOUNTS.'
Accounts amounting to £73 8/ were passed for payment. SEASONABLE GRLLIINGS. At the conclusion of the business, the Mayor said that they were drawing near the end of another year, and he wished to take the opportunity of expressing his appreciation ot the work of the Council, and to wish the members the compliments of the season. “There have been little ructions and rows,” he said, “but that has been part of the show. When there are, n. is a sign that a public bodyis healthy, but' if everything goes on without a kick, then there is/something wrong. (Laughter.) /' ' Cr. Murray considered the year* nan ben a good one. Tbere had been criticism in the Council, but once outside it had been forgotten. He had great pleasure in .asking the Mayor to accept the season’s greetings from the members of the Council.
