Two,fine red deer stags were seen in the clearing below the bush in the Ohau Valiev the other morning. Deer are becoming numerous on the Tararuas above Gladstone Hoad, and occasionally play havoc with the fences on the I arms in the neighbourhood. Parties who have recently visited the leading spurs of the Tara mas state that pig rootings are to be seen everywhere, the evidences oi ilie presence of these denizens of the hush being more numerous than for years past. A man carrying a formidable-look-ing swag tramped into Levin yesterday on bis way to Wellington. He said he iiad walked ail the way from Auckland looking lor work without success. lie enquired the distance • end when told that it was about 60 miles fo_ Wellington, said he could cover that in two days. It was his intention to try and work -his way back to the Old Country. The debate concerning the suggested meat pool was taken in the House of Ilepresentatives yesterday. No formal motion was placed before members, the opportunity for the debate being provided by the presentation of the annual report, of the Agricultural Department. Members cl tlie House asked many questions concerning the details of the scheme, and expressed apprehensions on some points, but the trend of the debate was favourable ,o th«t scheme.
