THE CATHOLIC BAZAAR.
A huge crowd attended the Catholic Bazaar on the nights of Friday and Saturday. The stallholders and their assistants were kept busy each evening, and the tug-of-war committee were hard pushed to get the events off up to time. Everything, however/ went along smoothly, and some of the" pulls were hard fights for victory. : TUG-OF-WAR. The fixtures for Thursday are:— Tiny Team. v. Carriers. Grafters v. Foxton. Miranui No. 2 v. McDonald’s Team (Levin). Springs v. Sherlock’s Team. Koputaroa v. Miranui No. 1. These are the semi-finals and 'he finals will be on Friday night. QUEEN CARNIVAL. Great excitement is being caused by this attraction, and the Hydro-electric and Children’s candidates are runniiig very close for the top- of the. poll. The positions of the candidates .at present are:— Votes. Hydro-electric Stall (Miss Gagliardi) 6390 Children’s Stall (Winnie Fitzgerald) 6189 Fibre Stall (M'iss Curran) ..,...... ‘ 5800 Farmers’ Stall (Miss Upjjpn) ..... -'3840 ’ The Bazaar was closed on Saturday night for four days, and wilLre-open on Thursday next. Friday will he the last night, and an exciting .evening’ is predicted, the chief attractions being the tug-of-war. and the drawing of the gold nuggets, , ; The successful Queen candidate will be announced at 10 o’clock on Friday night, and a presentation - will he made. .. . f % - It was inadvertently omittedwin the last issue that the. Bazaar wa| opened by the Mayor, Mr W. Murdoch, who made a short but interesting speech. ' ■ .
