* A USEFUL ORGANISATION. j _____ X A. church parade to the Anglican ; Church of the Girl Scouts was held on Sunday morning last, there being 18 girds present in charge of the Scout- ■ mistress, Miss Wickliffe. The Girl Scoift movement was started in 1908, and has made rapid prigress in New Zealand since that time. The Scouts are ■in no way a military organisation, but have as ’their object tbe' training of girls in nursing, cookery, needlework, physical culture, laundry.. work, scientific and other instructive and useful They have "as their motto “Be 1 always ready." x .There are 34 girls in the local class, . and some of them have as many as \ five- proflcie icy badges for examine - ' tions passed in the different courses. In Mrs Bovis the Scouts have an energetic secretary, who spaces no; effort to raise.the money necessary v> c&rry on the work. Mrs Bovis m tends holding, a concert next muDi to raise bunds in aid of the summer camp for the f'rla, which will be held at one of the beaches. Ihe idea is to sechre -a house and take the girls in drafts of about 12 for a wee« at a. time, Miss Wickliffe returning . each time with the draft and taking back the next one. Those in chargf* of this movement deserve the highest praise for the long period of good work done.-wifbout remuneration or publicity, having only in mind the welfare of.the girls.
