SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING.
The regular monthly meeting of the ,Shannon School Committee was held last Monday, all members being present, and Mr J. W. Murray presiding. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From the secretary, Horowhenua School Committees’ Association, enclosing a copy of the proposed constitution.—Received. From the Wellington Education Board enclosing forms to be filled in . when applying for subsidies. —Decided the secretary fill in same and return them in the interests of the school library. From ' the Wellington Education Board enclosing report of Inspector, who notes that there have been several changes in tne staff. The school Is in good Order, and tne general progress is satisfactory.—Adopted, and me Committee congratulated the headmaster (Mr Voysey) on the interest he is taking in the school. GENERAL. The s&inual School picnic was under discussion, and it was decided to hold a picnic at Plimmerton on a date to be fixed later. The horse paddock fence having blown down with the last gale, it was decided that the secretary communicate with the owners of the adjoining property with 'a view of their cooperation in having repairs effected. ' One of the tankp being in bad condition and past repair, the secretary was directed to write the Education Board with the object of obtaining a new one. It was decided to notify the Board that, so far, no copper boiler had arrived, though they, had promised to send .one along some mouthy ago. APOLOGY DEMANDED. The secretary reporTecTlhat the flagpole was now in good ' order and ready for use 1 when required, although some difficulty was experienced in obtaining the new cap and pulleys for the top, and eventually one had to he made to order. As Ironbark wqs used in its construction, it should last considerably longer than the last one. The report was received, and exception taken to the action of the Borough Council in reporting that® the flagpole should be the subject of a letter to the Committee, and the secretary was authorised to write a letter to the Shannon News on the mat- • ter, requesting an apology front the Borough Council through' that paper. Accounts amounting to £7 19s Id were passed, for payment.
