HOROWHENUA CRICKET ASSOCIATION.
/ * COMPETITIONS COMMENCE ON NOVEMBER 19. A meeting of the Association was held last, evening. The president (Mr H. Hook) presided, and the delegates present were: Messrs A. H. Morgan and F. Mayne (Shannon), C. Morgan and W. Clark (Moutoa), F. Fletcher and H. Murray (Y.M.C.A.), J. O’Connor, and G. Thomas (Weraroa). On the minutes of the previous meeting being read, Mr O’Connor stated that he noticed that it \vas proposed to make an alteration in the competition points, a win to count two points and a draw one, the two points to stand whether the win was a single innings or a two-innings match. Last year three points had been allowed for a straight-out win in a two-innings match, two points in a one-innings game, and one point, for a draw. He was of opinion that the threeqjoint score in a two-innings game was an incentive to make 4 he teams and this had proved the case with Y.M.C.A. last year. ( Mr A. H. Morgan said the question had its other side, because where a team was trying to get a fhree-point win, there would be a number of its players who would probably not get a bat. These players could hardly be expected to put up with that very often. The system would at least ensure every man batting. Mr Mayne supported this view,' but Mr Fletcher stated that last year’s experience satisfied him that the threepoint win was in the best interests of the game. As thfe mover of the motion proposing the change in the scoring, Mr Mayne said he would withdrawn his motion and test the feeling of the meeting. This wds, done, and the voting was equal. The chairman’s vote favoured the two-point win'and onepoint. draw, and this was adopted. Mr A. H. Morgan stated that their club had been approached by junior players with the idea of promoting a junior competition. There were juniors in Shannon who would not have a chance of getting a game in the senior team, and a junior competition would be in their interests. The Moutoa, Weraroa and Shannon delegates stated that their clubs could raise junior teams, I and Y.M.C.A. thought they would probably be able to place a junior team in the field. Mr O’Connor moved that the Association inaugurate a junior competition and to call for nominations. This was seconded by Mr Mayne and carried. It was decided that the nominations close on Wednesday next, 16th inst. The president stated that, as there was no junior trophy, he Would have pleasure in presenting a cup for competition. (Applause.) I The president, secretary and Mr Mayne were appointed a shb-commit-tee to inaugurate the junior championship. 1 Messrs. O’Connor, :Fletcher, and Mayne were elected selectors of the representative team.. The stated that a letter had been forwarded to the Manawatu Association with the# idea of affiliating with that body, but so far no reply had been received. It would be a good idea, he thought, as Horowhenua. would getemore games with Palmerston teams and with minor Associations. and perhaps get in one or two members in the Manawatu rep. teams.' Mr O'Connor agreed that it would be to the Horowhenua Association’s advantage to affiliate. Mr ’V. H Morgan was appointed delegate to wait on the Manawatu Association at its next meeting 'in connection with-this matter. It was decided that it any learns in the southern districts wished to nominate, a competition be inaugurated in those districts, and that the winners play off the northern winners for the championship. On Mr Murray’s motion,, it was decided that the senior competition consist of four rounds. FIXTURES. The fixtures for the first, round were drawn as follows: — Saturday, November 19Shannon v. Weraroa, at Shannon. Moutoa v. Y.M.C.A., at Levin. , Saturday, November 26 Moutoa v. Shannon, atJMoutoa. Weraroa v. Y.M.C.A., at Weraroa. Saturday, December 3 Shannon v Y.M.C.A., at Shannon... Weraroa v. Moutoa, at Weraroa. In the second ro{ihd ihe-teams will meet as in the first round, but on the opposite grounds#. The third round will be the same as the hrst, and the fourth the same as the second.
