SHANNON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
SPECIAL MEETING. A special summoned meeting of the Borotigh Council was held on Thursday evening last, the Mayor presiding over a full attendance of councillors. Correspondence was received from Mr R. Edwards, borough engineer* stating that on making inquiries he found that he could procure timber for the bridge in Graham Street, and that he estimated the whole cost would not be more than £3O. It was proposed by Cr. Spencer, and seconded by Cr. Murray, that the engineer be instructed to order the timber at once, so that the work may be proceeded with. The Council decided to take 'drastic action against owners of stock who allowed their stock to wander at night, and the ranger was instructed to impound all stock found on the roads between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Complaint was made about cars going to the cemetery not keeping to the track, thus doing damage to crops and grass. After considerable discussion it was decided to place notices on gate of "No th'oroqghfare for cars,” and "Please shut the gate.” The Mayor volunteered to paint the notices. It was decided to place in the hands of the borough solicitor the names of those who had to be notified to make certain improvements with regard to the insanitary state of their property, with instructions to take immediate action. N The Motor Registration Bill was discussed at length, and on the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Fargher, the Council decided to write to , Mr Newman, M.P., and inform him that it was the opinioH of this Council that the system of allowing only local bodies of 5000 inhabitants to be J registering bodies was inequitable, and that the Council favoured a Fax on motors, to be devoted to an arterial road, or towards an increase to the subsidies of local bodies.
